Bol

Bol means ‘to speak’ in Asian languages. It is a project aimed at women from the disenfranchised communities, particularly those from the refugee and asylum seeking sectors. Bol aims to empower them with physical well-being and self expression so that they are enabled with confidence and self-belief to pursue a healthier and active lifestyle, and engage in a culturally cohesive society.

AKDC delivers Bol through a structured programme of workshops involving physical movement and self-expression to engage women from these communities Movement exercises are devised from south Asian dance vocabulary in addition to modes of storytelling techniques. Bol offers an art therapy approach to tackling and approaching challenging issues and conditions within culturally isolated communities.

The project has been working in Woking with Liaise Women's Centre at the Maybury Centre and in Slough. The current programme is funded by Awards For All (Big Lottery).

Bol is available as  8/12 /16 week activity.
