Consistent performance refines technique and stamina..”

— JANE CHAN|Creative Producer of AKDC STUDIO

We believe touring and performing offer dancers invaluable professional development opportunities, enhancing their skillset, techniques, adaptability, and artistic growth. Performing in diverse venues exposes dancers to different venues, audiences, helping build adaptability and confidence.

Touring fosters resilience, offering dancers opportunities to adjust to new climate, working culture, environments, schedules, and technical conditions. It also encourages networking with industry professionals, broadens industry knowledge, opening doors to collaborations and opportunities.

Experiencing various cultures broadens artistic perspectives, inspiring creativity and innovation informing one’s artistic practice. Additionally, consistent performance refines technique and stamina, ensuring long-term career sustainability and allowing time and space for dancers’ practice to deepen and finesse.

Overall, touring and performing shapes our dancers into versatile, well-rounded professionals prepared for the dynamic demands of the dance industry, and equips dancers with tools to tell stories we want to tell.

A company pool of Kathak dancers touring throughout this year - in theatres and outdoor spaces.

Story of One, Story of Many is a high energy Kathak piece featuring the cyclic phenomenon of south Asian classical arts and philosophy – where there is no beginning or end; incorporating Nritta (pure dance) and Nritya (expression of narrative) to capture the first beat of a time cycle and nest it until it becomes the ‘one’ again.

Choreographed by Amina Khayyam with Kathak composition collaboration with Debasish Mukherjee, and accompanied by live music featuring table and cello, three Kathak dancers weave individual stories of migrants tarnished by media and politicians for cheap exploitation, spreading fear for those risking their lives to make a better future.

Story of One, Story of Many is a variation of AKDC’s critically acclaimed production ONE performed solo by Amina Khayyam that has toured extensively since 2010
